Rotary electric actuator

A rotary actuator is an electromechanical device that converts electrical energy into rotary motion. The rotary electric actuator is used in applications where angular or rotational movement is required. The rotary electric actuator is used to control devices such as valves, robotic arms and handling equipment.

The rotary actuator is available with three different types of motor, depending on the purpose of the device.

The DC electric motor rotary actuator uses direct current to produce rotation. The stepper motor rotary actuator allows precise rotary movements in defined step increments. The brushless electric motor rotary actuator offers efficient, long-lasting rotation without the problems of brush wear.

Main components of a rotary actuator

Power source

In the case of rotary actuators developed by SERMAT, the energy source is an electric motor.

Transmission elements

Rotary actuators may have various transmission elements, such as gears, pulleys or other devices, which transmit and amplify rotary motion.

Output shaft

The output shaft is the part of the electric actuator that delivers the rotary motion to the load or mechanism to be driven.

Housing

The electric rotary actuator is housed in a casing which acts as a protective envelope to house the internal components and ensure their correct alignment.

Position sensors

The rotary actuator's position sensors are used to provide feedback information on the angle of rotation, enabling precise control of the electromechanism.

How a rotary actuator works

Energy conversion

The electric motor in SERMAT actuators receives energy and generates an initial movement.

Transmission of motion

The initial movement generated by the electric motor is transmitted to the transmission elements (gears, belts, etc.) which adjust the speed and torque.

Output of rotary motion

The actuator's output shaft delivers the rotary motion to the load, allowing precise control of the rotation.

Control and precision

Position sensors and electronic controllers enable precise control of the actuator's angle of rotation and speed.

Rotary actuator applications

The electric rotary actuator is an essential device for converting energy into controlled rotary motion, offering precise and reliable solutions for a wide range of applications.
